Lighter is a trading platform that lets you buy and sell "perpetual" contracts (a form of crypto trading), on a fast, low-cost layer built on top of Ethereum. This page walks you through creating your account step by step, even if you are a complete beginner. > **Important**: Botlyz is an automation **software editor**, not a fund manager. You keep full control of your money and your access at all times. Trading carries a risk of loss. ## What you need Before you begin, get ready with: * A **wallet** (a crypto "wallet"). This is a small app, often a browser extension, that holds your access and lets you connect and sign. We recommend **Rabby**, which is simple and free. * A few minutes of your time. > 👉 A wallet does **not** ask for an email or a password in the usual sense: it works with a recovery phrase that only you hold. Write it down somewhere safe and never share it. ## Step 1: open Lighter with the Botlyz link Open the Botlyz referral link: [app.lighter.xyz/?referral=BOTLYZ](https://app.lighter.xyz/?referral=BOTLYZ). Using this link links you to Botlyz, which is required to use our tools later on. It changes nothing about your fees or your control over your account. ## Step 2: connect your wallet 1. On the Lighter page, click **"Connect"** or **"Connect Wallet"**. 2. Choose your wallet from the list (for example **Rabby**). 3. Your wallet opens and asks you to allow the connection: accept. 4. Lighter then asks you to **sign** a message. Signing simply proves that this wallet belongs to you. **It is free** and does not spend any funds. > **Important**: signing a connection message costs nothing and sends no money. Never sign a message you do not understand on other sites, but here the Lighter connection signature is normal. Your wallet is now the **"owner"** of the account. Lighter will create, underneath it, a dedicated **"trading sub-account"**: that is where your trading activity will happen. ## Step 3: your trading account is created on your first deposit This is the most important point to understand: at this stage, **your Lighter trading account does not exist yet**. It is created **automatically the moment you make your very first deposit of funds**. In other words: * ✅ I opened the Botlyz link. * ✅ I connected my wallet and signed. * ⏳ I still need to **deposit funds** so that my trading account is actually created. Until you deposit, it is normal to see no balance and no trading sub-account. ## What next? Once your wallet is connected, continue in this order: 1. **Deposit funds**: this is the step that actually creates your trading account. Do I need an email to create a Lighter account?** No. You do not need an email or a password: your wallet acts as your identity. You log in by connecting your wallet and signing. **Q. Do I need to do "KYC" (identity verification)?** That depends solely on how you bring in your funds. If you deposit crypto you already own, no identity verification is required. However, if you use a service that converts traditional money (bank card, transfer) into crypto, that service may ask you for identity verification. Lighter does not ask you for KYC to create the account. **Q. Which wallet should I choose?** We recommend **Rabby**, which is free and easy to get started with. Other compatible wallets also work. **Q. Do I already have a trading account right after connecting my wallet?** No. The trading account is created on your **first deposit**. Before that, the trading sub-account does not exist yet. **Q. Does signing cost money?** No. The connection signature is free and sends no funds. Only a deposit actually moves money. ## Troubleshooting ### My wallet does not appear in the list * Check that the wallet extension (for example Rabby) is installed and unlocked. * Refresh the Lighter page and click **"Connect"** again. ### The signature window does not open * Open your wallet extension manually: the signature request may be waiting there. * Check that pop-ups are not blocked by your browser. ### I see no balance or trading account * This is normal until you deposit. Go to the [Deposit funds](/docs/english/installation-pas-a-pas/deposer-des-fonds.md) step: your trading account will be created at that point. ### I connected with the wrong wallet * Disconnect on Lighter, then reconnect by choosing the right wallet.
