# Trade with your tokens

## What this page is about

On Lighter, you do not have to convert all your tokens into USDC to start a strategy. Thanks to the **unified account**, the tokens you already hold count as usable capital for trading, **without having to sell them**. This page explains simply how this works and how to make the most of it.

> **Important**: Botlyz is an automation **software editor**, not a fund manager. The tool is **non-custodial**: you keep **full control** of your capital and your keys. Trading carries a risk of loss, and past performance does not guarantee future results.

## What is a unified account?

A **unified account** (sometimes called a "UTA", for *Unified Trading Account*) is a Lighter account that brings **all your assets together in one place**:

* Your **USDC** (the stablecoin usually used as collateral).
* Your **tokens held in spot** on Lighter: for example ETH, LINK, UNI, AAVE, LDO, LIT, SKY, and more to come.

Instead of treating your USDC on one side and your tokens on the other, Lighter adds up **the value of all these assets** to determine how much capital you can commit to a strategy.

## Your tokens count as capital

Here is the key idea: on a unified account, **the total value of your valued assets** serves as tradable capital, not just your USDC.

* You hold, for example, LINK and ETH in spot on Lighter.
* You do not need to sell them to free up USDC.
* Their **dollar value** is added to your USDC to form your **tradable capital**.

✅ The result: you can start a strategy **while keeping your tokens**, and continue to benefit from (or bear) how their price moves, as usual.

> **Good to know**: your tradable capital corresponds to the **total value of your valued assets**, not just the amount of USDC. Since your tokens' price moves, this value moves too, up and down.

## Starting a strategy that takes advantage of it

The principle is the same as for any strategy. There is nothing special to enable: as soon as your tokens are held in spot on your Lighter account, their value is taken into account.

1. **Deposit or keep your assets** on Lighter (USDC and/or spot tokens). See [Deposit funds](/docs/english/installation-pas-a-pas/deposer-des-fonds.md).
2. **Connect your account** to Botlyz if you have not already. See [Connect your account to Botlyz](/docs/english/installation-pas-a-pas/connecter-un-compte-lighter.md).
3. **Install a strategy** by following the usual steps. See [Step-by-step installation](/docs/english/installation-pas-a-pas.md).
4. When you choose your allocation, Botlyz calculates the **required tradable capital** from the total value of your assets, spot tokens included.

So you keep your tokens while putting them to work as collateral for trading.

## Engine update: re-sign, no interruption

From time to time, a strategy's **engine** (the logic that decides on orders) is improved, for example to make better use of unified accounts. When this happens:

* You **re-sign** your strategy: the same parameters as before, but a **new signed version** (EIP-712, off-chain and free).
* **Nothing is interrupted** until you re-sign: your running strategy keeps working on the version you had already signed.
* You stay in control of when you move to the new version.

✅ In short: re-signing simply confirms that you accept the new version of the engine. Your settings do not change, and you experience no downtime.

## Frequently asked questions

**Q. Do I have to sell my tokens to start a strategy?**

No. That is exactly the point of the unified account: your tokens held in spot count as tradable capital **without being sold**. You continue to hold your tokens.

**Q. What happens if my tokens' price falls?**

That is a **normal market risk**. Since your tradable capital depends on the value of your assets, a drop in their price reduces this value, and a rise increases it. Botlyz does not remove this risk: you remain exposed to market movements, exactly as if you held these tokens outside a strategy.

**Q. Which tokens are taken into account?**

Tokens held in spot on Lighter and accepted as collateral, for example ETH, LINK, UNI, AAVE, LDO, LIT, SKY, in addition to your USDC. The list evolves and more tokens are expected. Check Lighter for the assets accepted at a given time.

**Q. Do I need to enable a special option?**

No. As soon as your tokens are held in spot on your Lighter account, their value is counted in your tradable capital. You just install your strategy as usual.

**Q. What does "re-sign" mean and do I have to do it?**

Re-signing means validating a **new signed version** of the strategy's engine, with the **same parameters**. You are not required to: as long as you do not re-sign, your strategy continues on the version already signed, with no interruption.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://botlyz.gitbook.io/docs/english/trader-avec-vos-tokens.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
